FROM THE ARTIST

Lyrically, the songs in “On, Off” wrestle with the role technology plays in our lives. In some ways, devices like our mobile phones, computers and the internet provide us with the feeling we hold an on, off switch. We can silence emails, block callers, allow alerts, track family members. Social media and dating apps allow us to dictate which parts of ourselves we show to the world and which parts we don't. Tests like 21 and Me and Amniocentesis allow us to better predict the future of our health and the health of our future children. The longer we depend on these technologies the more they change our relationship to ourselves, each other, the news, our future and our perception of the world, to the point where it's no longer clear who or what holds the 'on, off switch'.
